I love to interact with students and audiences of all ages and am eager to help your program. I tailor each class to suit the level, goals, and needs of your students. In addition to high schools and universities around the country, I've enjoyed giving  workshops for such organizations as PMEA, NAfME Eastern and National, TMEA, FMEA, College Music Society, the Florida Flute Association, Texas Flute Society, Austin Flute Society, Albuquerque Flute Association, the Pittsburgh Flute Club, the British Flute Society, and the National Flute Association.

Masterclasses are exciting opportunities to help students try a new approach and openly trust themselves while inspiring others. I love learning together as a group and still attend and participate in masterclasses given by other musicians. I have taught in a masterclass format to general audiences (instrumentalists) and flutists alike, both in the US, Europe, and Mexico. These  interactive, "public lessons" are also available - for your section, studio, and woodwind program.

In addition to directing and teaching high school flute camps, flute seminars, and helping at fine arts/band camps, these are some of the topics for clinics I've presented at high schools, universities, conferences, and flute clubs:

  • Piccolo 101 - ways to achieve a sense of comfort, blend, & flexibility
  • Playing Well with Others: Keys to Collaboration
  • Conquering Performance Anxiety
  • Technique: Creativity in the Practice Room
  • Developing Critical Listening Skills (and using them!)
  • Lyricism and Line - developing a keener sense of musicianship
  • Practicing strategies (general, ensemble, flute)
  • Using technology in the applied studio
  • Orchestral Auditions 101
  • Navigating the College Audition Process
  • Body Use Awareness Strategies for Flutists and Musicians
  • Time Management for Busy Musicians
  • Presenting Yourself: Cover Letters, CVs, Resumes, Websites, Social Media, and Beyond!
  • The Teaching Profession - advice for prospective teachers
  • Maintaining a Balance Between Life and Career
“It is rare for a seminar of a competitive field of study to foster new friendships and a positive atmosphere where all of us can learn and grow. On the way to the airport, many of us spoke about the renewed spirit we gained over the course of the week and I can honestly say that it was one of the best musical experiences I’ve had during my time as a music major.”  - student testimonial from the  2012 Baylor Flute Seminar
“I really enjoyed the class and your teaching methods. Even in these few short days, I have been striving to incorporate many of the ideas you presented in my playingI . . .I can only imagine what the long-term impact will be.” - student testimonial from a  Baldwin Wallace Conservatory masterclass
"Attending the program for the past four years has been incredibly informative and inspirational, especially the first one. I learned more from you, Marianne Gedigian, and Jim Walker than I had in my entire life. . . also made some great friends at this program that I still keep up with, and I know that we are all thankful for you bringing us together." - 2016 student testimonial about previous flute seminars
